Emergency Information

Anahuac ISD Transportation Department

1000 Ross Sterling
Anahuac, Texas
409-267-2080

The mission of the Anahuac ISD Transportation Department is to provide the safest, most efficient and punctual transportation for the students of the district in a supportive environment that enhances their education.  The Transportation Department strives to be full partners in the education of children.

ASSIGNED BUS

Students must ride their assigned bus unless they bring a note from home. Students suspended from their regular bus may not ride another bus under any circumstances.

INSTRUMENTS

Band instruments must be kept in the seat compartment (in lap or on floor between student's feet).

BUS STOPS

Students may be required to walk up to ¼ of a mile to a bus stop.  Buses will not go down streets/roads that involve a retrace unless the distance to the last stop is greater than ¼ mile. Parents must provide a bus turnaround if their student’s stop is the end of the route in retrace situations. Buses will not enter private property. Students living in close proximity may be assigned a common bus stop. Bus routes are designed to limit student ride time, with a Department goal to never have a student on a bus for more than 60 minutes one way.

CAMERAS

From time to time a bus may have a camera.  Only campus administrators and Transportation personnel may view the tapes.

CELL PHONES & ELECTRONIC DEVICES

As the bus is an extension of the classroom, any paging device, personal digital assistant, portable phone, portable camera phone, Palm Pilot, or any other type of electronic or imaging device shall be not used while on the school bus. The bus driver shall confiscate the device and give it to the campus principal.

COOPERATION

Students should cooperate with the driver by keeping their head, hands and feet inside of the bus, by respecting the driver and other students, by sitting and by talking quietly.  Drivers may ask a student to move to the front of the bus and students should follow that request.

DAILY SERVICE CRITERIA

Regular transportation is scheduled to provide service to student riders.  If a student is an infrequent rider and his/her bus stop is located at the end of a retrace with no other students being picked up, the student or parent should contact the Transportation Department stating his/her wish to ride.

DRIVERS

All school bus drivers have a DOT physical each year.  All drivers must have a Commercial Driver’s License with passenger/school bus endorsement.  They must complete 20 hours of certification when they receive their CDL-P & S endorsement.  After the initial class they must complete 8 hours of classroom instruction every 3 years.  Drivers are required to keep their buses clean and may require assistance from students to pick up litter inside the bus.

EDUCATION CODE 37.125 & 37.126

Any person who intentionally disrupts, prevents, or interferes with the lawful transportation of students to and from school or activities sponsored by a school on a vehicle owned and/or operated by the District shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.  If the illegal act is conducted through use or exhibition of a firearm, the person shall be guilty of a felony.

PICK UP TIME CRITERIA

Students are expected to be at the bus stop 5 minutes prior to the scheduled arrival time.  Buses will load students at their assigned stop and return them to the same location at the end of the school day.  General Education buses do not wait for late students.  Students are expected to proceed immediately to the buses and should never approach a moving bus.

SAFETY VIOLATIONS

Drivers shall report safety violations by students to the campus principal.  All discipline for safety violations is at the discretion of the school principal.  Discipline may involve short or long term loss of bus riding privileges.

SEATING CHART

The driver has the right to assign seats.

STANDING

Everyone must be seated before the bus moves.
